French actor Jean Gabin had a unique way of expressing his emotions and personality, which left indelible memories  in the minds of French and international audiences. One of his most famous performances is his interpretation of the tragic character of Jean in Port of Shadows,  a deserter who finds solace in Nelly's love for him. 

 

Before the advent of Method Acting, his unique naturalistic performances made his varied set of characters highly relatable to audiences. In turn, he showed each and every class of society the world of people, of which they would never have gotten the opportunity to share and witness the day to day. Thusly, he created bridges between people, who were leading very different lives and contributed to reducing prejudice through storytelling.
