2016

This drawing of Lamberto Maggiorani inspired by the last scene of De Sicca's Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di Biciclette) was made around the time of the Brexit and after issues arose between European countries, in the aftermath of the first big wave of migrants coming from the Middle-East to Europe. From this point on, the European Union seemed weakened and uncertain. We can only hope that no European country will come back to a level of misery as depicted in this movie. In Bicycle Thieves, Maggiorani's performance of Antonio provides a portrait of Italian people's misery, at the time of one of the country's lowest economic points.
