CIVILISATION

pencil

100 x 150 cm

2017

Part of the most awful events in history are the ones that stemmed from the expansion of European power to create new trade routes and control the existing ones across Asia and the Middle-East. Through colonialisation, there was an attempt to impose a culture and annihilate ancient civilisations to better take advantage of the riches they found.

This last work of the series is to remember what happened to these civilisations. They are a part of world history and their plight continues still in today's world, as they struggle to keep the memory of their people and their traditions alive, against the overwhelming pressure of standardisation.
